If at any time in my early twenties, I was told that one day I would be referred to as a ‘wedding expert’ in the future….I would have laughed. Even though I in no way consider myself an expert, I do know a thing or two about wedding days. I have lost count of my grand tally of weddings that I have photographed, but what I do remember is the days that stand out the most. Aside from the overwhelming love and warmth that all of my weddings share, it is the sense of calm and tranquility that makes these weddings memorable. What these days all seem to have in common, is the location. A venue that can be used for preparation, ceremony & reception eases the pressures of time and logistics. By simply removing these from the equation I have noticed my couples really relax into the day and are able to spend more time with family and friends. Which brings me to the Spotted Chook, an eclectic little B&B in the quaint highland village of Montville that has a whole lot of personality. In the early days of Shutter and Lace, I photographed a wedding here that made me really fall in love with the whole wedding photography experience. A few years on, the venue was the perfect choice for Debbie + Alec, just the right size for the closest of friends and family to come together and celebrate the marriage of these two wonderful people. Spending time with them over the course of the day, I couldn’t help but feel that I was part of their family, not only did I have a HEAP of fun….I also got a little teary after seeing Alec’s reaction to Debbie walking down the aisle. Here’s a small selection of images from their day. I hope they warm your heart as much as their wedding did mine.
I choose you this day and every day.
It’s been a looooong while since I blogged…and i’ve been feeling a little guilty. I have so many amazing weddings and even more amazingly gorgeous couples to share with you. At the beginning of this year I took a little time off. A moment to refresh, reflect and rejuvinate and I am ready to bounce back into my wedding season with an equally excited team.
I have been dying to share the wedding of Laura + Dean with you. Their day….was un-freakin-believable! These two put every ounce of their personalities into it – with Laura, painting, crafting, arranging and collecting all the little details you see. The bouquets were a team effort by the girls in the bridal party and the dress was lovingly sewn by one pretty talented aunt. The ceremony was held under the canopy of a macadamia farm so very close to home, whilst the intimate reception under the light of a chandelier and stars was held in a cosy B&B owned by her family in Montville.
Laura + Dean are the kindest of souls…..you can’t help but feel that you have already known them a life time on your first introduction…and I have the feeling that the delivery of their photographs is only the beginning of our friendship.
Here’s to Laura + Dean and some wonderful photography by Olivia with some film photos thrown in for kicks.
